Choosing Who Sees Your Test

Learn when to narrow your test audience, how to save reusable targeting setups, and when custom audiences with screening questions make sense.

Choosing Who Sees Your Test

The instinct is to narrow the audience to your exact buyer. Resist it for most tests. Fastest Available Shoppers returns results quickest, and for click-through questions a general sample usually gives the same answer as a targeted one.

Start broad

Narrow when the demographic genuinely changes the answer: a product bought almost entirely by one group, or a price question where household income matters.

Every constraint you add slows the test down.

Saved audiences

Once you've built a targeting setup worth reusing, save it. Running the same audience across tests is what makes results comparable over time.

Custom audiences

A custom audience is a pool you screen into with your own qualifier questions, such as “do you own a dog?”, keeping only the shoppers whose answers match.

Screening spends a Pinion Poll credit for every shopper surveyed, including the ones who don't qualify. Survey at least 500 to land a usable pool.
