Sunspot Packaging Test
Compare darker package designs against Amazon's white space, interpret shopper feedback, and decide when to rerun the test as a Search Simulation.
Create a full solid color or darker package variation to test. This typically performs better in the sea of white space on Amazon.
The question this answers
Which kind of packaging do shoppers prefer?
What shoppers are asked
Shoppers see your options and are asked to pick one and explain why.
Which kind of packaging do you prefer? Why?
How to read the result
Wins mention standing out or looking premium. A solid, darker package against Amazon's wall of white is a contrast play, and shoppers describe it in exactly those terms.
When you run this as a straight image comparison, the effect is understated because side-by-side is the one context where contrast does not help. If the darker option wins even slightly here, it will usually win by more in a real results row. Consider rerunning it as a Search Simulation before you decide.
Losses split two ways. "Looks cheap" is a finish problem, such as matte versus gloss or print quality. "I couldn't see the product" is a structural problem with the design, and a much more expensive one to have found late.
What to do next
- Back Packaging Test: Check whether the package belongs in the main image at all.
- Keyphrase Test: Dark packaging gives light text somewhere to live.
- Tilted Image Test: Try another route to standing out if color is not the lever.
