Back Packaging Test

Test whether showing retail-ready packaging in your Amazon main image increases shopper trust, clarifies quantity, and improves purchase intent.

Test retail-ready packaging in your main image

If you have retail-ready packaging, add it to the background of your main image. Make sure your product and package overlap.

The question this answers

Do shoppers prefer a main image that includes my packaging?

What shoppers are asked

Shoppers see your options and are asked to pick one and explain why.

Pretend you're browsing on Amazon. Which product would you be most likely to buy? Why?

How to read the result

Wins sound like legitimacy. When retail packaging in frame works, shoppers say the product looks like something they'd find in a shop, or that it would be fine as a gift. That is a trust signal, and it matters more in categories full of unbranded listings.

Losses usually sound like confusion, and that's the valuable part. The common one is quantity: "do I get one or two?" If several shoppers ask that, you have found a conversion leak that has nothing to do with this test. Fix it with an explicit quantity cue and you'll likely recover more than the packaging ever would have.

Medium impact means expect a modest margin. If certainty lands between 66% and 85%, treat it as a lean rather than a mandate. Adopt it if the shot is cheap to take, or run it again with more shoppers if it isn't.

What to do next

  • Sunspot Packaging Test: If packaging helps, test whether a darker package helps more.
  • Open Package Test: Take the opposite approach by showing the contents rather than the box.
  • Keyphrase Test: Use packaging in frame as a legitimate place to add a readable phrase.
